Hiya!  Awfully nice of you to visit my little ol' blog.

A quick description of me would be that I love my family, my friends, life, photography, and pancakes.

I live in Atlanta with my giant dog Fletch, and spent the first chunk of my working days as a scientist.  Then, I shifted some major gears, and started my photo biz nearly seven years ago.  I feel extremely lucky to have a career that is always changing and always challenging.  I'm grateful for every day that I get to wake up and do what I love.

I'm drawn to all forms of art, and multiple styles of photography.  However, I'm moved most by personality and character.  This is what set me on the path to doing portraiture.  Whether I'm shooting a beautiful wedding, a happy family, or a beloved pet, I'm always a portrait photographer.  I want every image to speak volumes and make it's viewer linger just a little longer.

I wear my heart proudly on my sleeve, and that's what you will get from my photos.  I will glady give you a little bit of myself in every frame I shoot.

GOOD GOLLY MISS MOLLY

Atlanta just got a little cuter, y’all. Molly is the sweetest little gal, and her hair is going to rule the world. She will soon realize that she hit the parent jackpot, because her mom and dad have that winning combination of loving and super-fun. She also has an awesome, furry brother named Grizz, who is a pretty great photo-bomber. This dog is so chill, he even let me use him as a tripod at one point. What a swell morning of photo playtime. I had such a blast meeting this wonderful family. Smiles for miles!

A NEW BUNDLE OF JOY

One of the great joys of my job is that I often get the privilege of photographing the new babies of couples who’s weddings I’ve shot. It’s just the best thing! I adored Karen and Ash during their beautiful wedding day, and now they have a perfect little lady named Kora. It was really cool to see how this great couple has become the epitome of beautiful, overjoyed first-time parents. That tiny gal is SO loved.

bensch family new arrival

The wonderful Bensch family has welcomed a lovely little gal into the world. Yay! She is pretty darn perfect, you guys. Also, she took her new modeling gig in stride. She was extremely patient, content, and happy while we moved her this way and that. What a trooper. She’s totally living up to her rock star status. I also have to say that I think the last two photos of this post say a lot about newborn babies. It’s all “oooooh!” and sleep. Congratulations to this great family and their sweet little one.

the littlest linville

Ready……set……cuteness!!!  Oh my goodness.  Little Charlotte has arrived, and she is just perfect.  Such a lovely bundle of tiny, adorable sweetness.  It was wonderful to see Dave and Melissa again, who are obviously proud and happy new parents.  This gal is sure to have a life full of fun and love.  Congratulations, Linvilles!

the hodgson twins arrive

Oh boy!  Also, oh girl!  The adorable Hodgson twins have arrived, and they are two incredible bundles of joy.  These little ones are already adding so much obvious happiness into this family.  I’m really glad I got to meet them while they were still so teeny-tiny.  They were very patient and accommodating models.  I just couldn’t be happier for this kind and lovely family.

The McCrae Family

I briefly met Julie and John last year when I shot Riley’s big birthday party at the Atlanta Botanical Garden.  At the time, they were expecting their first little one.  It was so wonderful to have some photo time with them last week, and get to meet their special new fella.  They are an absolutely adorable family, and they seem to be thrilled with their new role as parents.  We took some photos at their lovely home, and then strolled down the street to Grant Park for a few more.  It was a pretty day, a fun shoot, and I’m glad to have gotten to take some photos for this sweet family.

I can’t help but smile when I see baby Mark’s surprised expression here.

I really enjoy the fact that this pic has The Cat In the Hat, and the fact that John is wearing a Sonic Youth t-shirt.  Yay!

I love how peaceful Julie is here with her little boy.

Julie’s mom was visiting, so we had to get her in the photos too!

Two very serious gentlemen…

Thank you so much, McCrae family!

the medford family!

Welcome to the world, Ian!  Amy and Brian’s little guy is already 10 weeks old, and such a cutie.  Poor fella was a really good sport when we snapped these photos.  He received some unexpected shots at the doctor’s office the morning of our shoot.  Amy pointed out that he wasn’t typically fussy.  In my non-parent expert opinion, Ian’s behavior wasn’t even a long lost distant cousin of fussy.  He was just sweet and adorable.

Wearing daddy’s favorite hat.  Love it!

He’ll be working on classic cars in no time…just like his pop

According to his parents, he’s been practicing this muscle man pose.  Check out those guns!

Back when we did Amy’s maternity pics, I thought it would be cool to do a little “before + after”.  So here’s what we got.  Yay!

What a fabulous time in the lives of the Medford family.  I’m so happy for them!

the milly + cros family

A few weeks ago, I had a wonderful photo shoot with Jenna, Florent, and their new little fella, Rio.  For those who might have seen the post, it was the photos taken in the movie theater.  SO much fun!  Jenna had some family in town for a visit, and wanted me to swing by for some more photo time.  Yay!  What a fantastic group of people.  Definitely the kind of folks who in an instant can make you feel like you’ve known them for years.

Jenna had talked about getting some shots with her front porch (which is super pretty and cozy), some pics of the family around the dinner table, and for fun, I thought I’d do some black & white portraits with the family.  Her only other request was to get photos that show the eye color of baby Rio and her dad.  Both of them have stunning eyes, so I can see why she’d want us to capture them.

Jenna and Florent, thank you for yet another day of fabulous photo play time!

the carstens family!

How wonderful it was to finally meet Lena’s family. They are so fun and easy-going, and I even got to have a battle with imaginary laser guns. I’ve decided that every photo session should have one of those, so be forewarned. Chloe, you win! What an enjoyable shoot, and this may sound corny, but you can tell there’s a lot of love in their home. Well, love and Chloe’s laser beams! Yay!

She’s definitely got the adorable big sister thing figured out.

Precious doesn’t even begin to describe little Gavin.

Two of the many things I love about this next image: 1 – a fabulous family, and 2 – doggie tongue!

Of course, we had to give Brodie his own close-up!

Can you tell I went crazy for the flowers in Chloe’s room?

Many, many thanks to the incredible Carstens family!

rio!

What a joy to finally meet Jenna and Florent’s little fella, Rio. Before she knew the gender of the baby, she had nicknamed it “Sparkle”, which is just about the best thing ever. However, the name Rio ranks really high on the coolness chart. He’s named after the place, not the Duran Duran song. As awesome as the name is, he’ll always be Sparkle to me. Just like baby Henry will always be Chauncey Rocket, little Max will always be Robot Zillionaire, and Alasdair will forever be Soul Crusher X.

There are several things that you’ll have to bear hearing me repeat a million times. One is that I LOVE when people come to me with new and inventive ideas for their photos. I can always come up with something, but then there’s the question of whether or not it will fit the people in the shoot. If folks bring their own ideas to the table, we’ll definitely be working with a scenario that suits them. Win, win!

Some of you may recognize Jenna, who was looking fabulous in an earlier post of her maternity pics. She had worked on a film that played at the historic Plaza Theater, so she thought it would be cool to take some shots of her adorable new baby there. Man, was she right! The powers that be at the Plaza were kind enough to give us free reign of the space before movie time. At the moment, they have the front of the theater entirely decorated to promote Halloween II. Lots of devils, headstones, and even a tiny coffin. We looked at each other and were like, “NO!”. Not quite family portrait material. Not a problem. There were plenty of other incredible places.

So here are some examples of what I shot with this rock star family. Note for other photographers: if you’re ever in a low-light situation, it sure is nice to have a gigantic white movie screen for bouncing flash. Yay!

Jenna totally has a Catherine Zeta Jones thing goin’ on here…

They brought these great old cameras that Florent has, and we set up this paparazzi shot. They were totally cracking me up.

Anton Corbijn is one of my favorite photographers. This next photo is a humble homage to his style.

After the movie theater, we headed to their lovely home for a few more pics. They have this interesting plant with heart-shaped leaves!

I love the look he’s giving his dad.

Florent is a champion of homemade pasta, and has convinced me that this is the best way to do it. I have a feeling there will be lots of pasta in my future. I’m adding one of these contraptions to my wish list.

Hooray! So much thanks to the wonderful Jenna, Florent, and Rio!
