"the meeting of two personalities is like the mixing of two chemical substances...if there is any reaction, both are transformed" - jung

Hiya!  Awfully nice of you to visit my little ol' blog.

A quick description of me would be that I love my family, my friends, life, photography, and pancakes.

I live in Atlanta with my hubby, and I'm pleased to say that we both work as, what I like to call "functioning artists".  I started my photo biz nearly five years ago, and feel lucky to have a career that is always changing and always challenging.  I'm greatful for every day that I get to wake up and do what I love.

I'm drawn to all forms of art, and multiple styles of photography.  However, I'm moved most by personality and character.  This is what set me on the path to doing portraiture.  Whether I'm shooting a beautiful wedding, a happy family, or a beloved dog, I'm always a portrait photographer.  I want every image to speak volumes and make it's viewer linger just a little longer.

I wear my heart proudly on my sleeve, and that's what you will get from my photos.  I will glady give you a little bit of myself in every frame I shoot.

fletch update, starring kara + gidget

It’s been ages since my last Fletch update.  Today, he and I were lucky to get a visit from cutie-pie Kara and her gorgeous Newfoundland, Gidget.  What better reason to take some pics for the bloggy-blog?  I already knew I adored Kara, but after meeting her fluffy, giant pup….I am now in love with Gidget as well.  We both commented on how cool it was to see our dogs get to play with something their own size.  Before Gidget, the closest thing in size to Fletch was the patio table.  So here are some shots of our “babies” doing their thing.

Gidget!

Fletch!

Oh the cuteness!

Fletch, taking it easy in his favorite diggin’ hole.

My new favorite photo.  (awesome photo skills by Kara Jensen!)

This one makes me so happy.

Gidget digits!

Yay, enormous pups!!

holli’s maternity shoot

Holli could be a walking advertisement for pregnancy.  She makes it look so cool, fit, and downright enjoyable.  In these pics, she’s just two weeks from her due date, and she looks amazingly fabulous.  Of course, this is not surprising to me.  I met Holli when I took maternity portraits during her first pregnancy, and she was just as joyful and gorgeous then.

I was thrilled when she contacted me to say they were expecting baby #2.  Woo hoo!  This is such a special family, and Holli is truly one of the most gracious human beings you’ll ever meet.

Oh, I love Mr Sampson!  I can tell he’s been practicing his poses.  He’s also sporting his new summer trim.

Little Smith is so giggly and adorable.

Let’s hear it for real family moments…yay!

Holli, once again, you and your family were a dream to photograph.  I can’t wait to see your little fella once he arrives!

fletcheroo

It’s been brought to my attention that this blog is well overdue for a Fletch update.  I’m not sure what trouble he was getting into during my last posts, but I can assure you that he has become the most wonderful, lovable, ridiculous dog.  He somehow picked up some mad guard dog skills, and I’m pretty sure he would take a bullet for me…..or at least taste some old food for me to make sure it was ok.

Just when we think he’s done growing, he gets bigger.  I forget how big he is until I’m walking him and everyone we pass shouts “dear god, what is that thing??!!”.  Typical responses are “polar bear rescue” or “Luck Dragon”.  I wish the pic below could more accurately show off his size.  Maybe next time, I’ll pose him next to a ruler, which he’d eat immediately.  To give you an idea, the size of his head in the photo is roughly equivalent to the length of 3 football fields.

I love you, Fletcheroooo!

happy birthday fletch!

Fletch just celebrated his very first birthday!  I can’t believe how the time has flown by.  I never dreamed that this ridiculous, fluffy maniac could bring me so much joy.  He also helped me discover a new measurement of time:  the period of time between when I’ve cleaned up all the fur around the house, and when new fur magically appears.  I call this time frame “fur units”.  One fur unit is roughly equal to 5 minutes.

Happy Birthday, my Fletcheroo!  You totally have my heart.

rain: a four-letter word

Why I hate rain…

SERIOUSLY!  He comes into the kitchen, and with one good shake, it looks like a clay-colored crime scene (can you tell I’ve been watching lots of “Dexter”?).  Um, this spatter pattern leads me to believe that the godzilla-sized killer entered the area from the back porch, committed the act, and then proceeded to eat all the household rugs.  Must be some type of calling card.

maddie (and stacy)

I’ve photographed family portraits, engagements, and even weddings where people’s furry friends joined in the fun.  I LOVE capturing a few shots of my clients’ pets….especially when they tell me that it’s impossible to get a good photo of their little pal.  I like a challenge!  It was time for me to try my hand at a full-on doggie portrait session.  I knew my friend Stacy’s dog Maddie would be the perfect photo subject.  She’s calm, adorable, and really well-behaved.  Every time Maddie and Fletch play together, I hope that Fletch will learn by example.  Nope.  He can’t seem to shake his crazy puppy bad-boy status, even around a good influence.

I had such a blast taking these pics, and Maddie was an awesome fluffy model.  I’m glad we got some shots with Stacy too.  Seeing that bond between someone and their pet makes me so happy.  These were actually taken a couple months ago, and I finally pulled some up for the ol’ blog.  Yay!  I hope there will be many more photo shoots in my future with whiskers and wagging tails!!

We had to get a shot of Olive too!  Sorry Maddie.

Aw, so much puppy luvs!

7 month old fletch

More doggies! Fletch is now 7 months old, and I no longer believe that this is the puppy we brought home back in February. This beast obviously ate our original pup, and began assuming his identity.

I’m trying to convert his jumping up energy into something practical by training him to reach things on high shelves for me. Soon, I’ll be able to sell my step ladder on Craig’s list.

We were on a beach trip during his “birthday”, so I took these one night at Susie’s house. It was dark and we were playing with the flashlight, so Fletch gets to look all artsy this month. Next month, I promise to post pics that show his ridiculous hugeosity.

egon’s birthday!

Recently, our friends Christian + Adri threw a swell birthday party for their doggie, Egon. Now, you might think this was just a crafty excuse for a bunch of adults to hang out and eat, but it really was about the pups. They had their own ice cream for cryin’ out loud!

It was a really fun time. Of course, now that I have a dog I love AND a point-n-shoot I love, I will also love your dogs and be taking lots of pictures of them. So, here are a few shots of Niels and Egon…

Egon is the most pointy dog I’ve known.

They were plum tuckered out by the end of the day. Egon is wearing a t-shirt he received as a birthday gift. I think it said something like “Ready to Pawty”. So awesome.

fletch + dottie’s play date

Fletch had the pleasure of Dottie’s company the other day. I’m always a little concerned when he meets a new doggie. Whenever another pup shows the slightest aggression, Fletch turns into one of those fainting mountain goats. Dottie was a well-behaved lady, while Fletch acted like a drunk teenager on spring break. I’m so sorry Dottie. Welcome to our world.

What I see when I wake up in the morning…

What I’m guessing Amber sees when she wakes up in the morning…

More doggie posts soon. Our canine pal Egon had a birthday party, and Fletch will be 7 months old soon. Woof!

5 month old fletch

For this Fletch update, I probably could have just posted this image…

From now on when folks ask what kind of dog he is, my reply will be, “he’s a luck dragon!”. In the past month, his body and extremities have gotten ridiculously long. When he runs around the yard, he looks like a newborn deer after 5 cans of Red Bull.

He had a wonky month health-wise (translation: his health care now costs more than ours). Apparently, he has a food allergy, which gave him a rash, an ear infection, and caused him to gnaw off some of his fur. Sigh. His wonderful vet helped us out with some solutions, and he’s now like a new dog. A new, Godzilla-like, maniac of a dog. We love you, Fletch. Keep on growin’!
